How Volunteering Can Help Save a Life

There are close to 7,000 homeless people in Atlanta and Atlanta Mission is dedicated to helping those men, women and children.

Of these 7,000 friends, neighbors and family members, less than half find somewhere to sleep at night. These are sad statistics to wake up to each day, but together, we can make a difference. If you’ve ever thought the time you spend volunteering with Atlanta Mission wasn’t appreciated, that it didn’t alter at least one person’s life in a positive way — you’re wrong. You make a difference. And the time you spend helping prepare and serve food, answer phones or cut and style hair makes a difference. When you volunteer at one of our homeless shelters in Atlanta, you impact lives in positive ways, and at Atlanta Mission, we want you to know just how important you are.

Volunteers are Role Models

As a volunteer with Atlanta Mission, you’re a role model of what life could be like. When you read to children or help lead a craft, you become a calming, knowledgeable presence of stability. You’re someone to look up to, someone to emulate. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t matter in the grand scheme of life, try spending time with a child who’s lost everything.

Volunteers Offer Kindness Where There May Only Have Been Ridicule

The lives of Atlanta’s homeless are far from serene. Despite the great advancements we’ve made as humans in this world, cruelty and ridicule still exist. But inside the walls of Atlanta Mission’s five homeless shelters, we bring acceptance and love. When you volunteer with us — when you organize a donation pick-up or host a family day activity, you’re helping to spread a positive message of hope and healing. You’re being a friend to someone who needs one.

Volunteers Make It Possible for More People to Get Help

Without you, Atlanta Mission wouldn’t be possible. Our thrift stores in Georgia, our men’s shelter in Atlanta, and our services that are geared toward women and children — none of those would be possible without the help of volunteers. Because you’re available to talk with incoming clients or to lead a class in life skills, we can help one more person.

If you’re searching for a way to truly make a difference, volunteer with Atlanta Mission today. You’ll help save countless lives, while nourishing your own soul in the process. We hope you will volunteer with us to help end homelessness one friend at a time.
