The streets of Atlanta are a cold and dangerous place for women and children.

Atlanta Mission provides a safe, secure place for homeless and abused women and children to receive the help they need. Today, women and children comprise nearly half of the clients we serve.

Every day, 380 women and children come to Atlanta Mission seeking help. Most come first to the Altanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, where they may receive shelter, clothing, medical care, a shower, and a meal.

Our goal is to help lead each woman to choose help for herself and her children. For women who accept our offer of help, most will move into My Sister’s House, where they may stay while they rebuild their lives, free of the dangerous uncertainty of the streets. In the past 12 months, we have helped 303 women and children end their homelessness —and helped 100 women find employment.

Statistics and Outcomes

  • Atlanta Mission acquired The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children in 2013. Originally expected to serve approximately 40 women and children per day, the Day Shelter is averaging almost three times that number one year later. In the first twelve months that the center was open, 2,266 women and 1,130 children have come through its front doors seeking help.
  • My Sister’s House provides daily meals and lodging for approximately 200 women and 75 children in residential-based services. An additional 30-40 beds are available for temporary emergency shelter.
  • 82% of the women who enroll in Career Development Services are gainfully employed in a full-time job upon completion of the program.

Give to Homeless Women and Children

Help transform the lives of homeless women and children in our city. The need is greater than ever for this vulnerable population and for this reason we’re excited to share with you about an opportunity to have your support multiplied through a matching program. Last month, an Atlanta Mission donor pledged a match donation of $200,000 in response to our new Transformation Model.

Your investment will be matched dollar for dollar as you increase your support from last year. The match will go into effect when your personal giving increases by $2,000.
