Atlanta Mission – The Basics

Atlanta is prospering in many ways. Jobs are arriving. Neighborhoods are revitalizing. Culture is thriving. Yet, poverty is also on the rise with more men, women, and children sleeping on our streets each night. The bonds of poverty are merciless, binding families with financial strain, emotional pain, and deep loneliness. In spite of the prosperity here, there are still many people facing homelessness, with no friends or family to turn to. These are our neighbors- hungry, hurting, and hopeless- struggling to survive every day.

They need our immediate help.

Everyone who comes to Atlanta Mission is unique. They walk through our doors with their own expectations… their own emotions… their own very specific needs. But they all have one thing in common. They need to know that they’re not alone. Each man, woman, and child receives individual attention, building strong relationships with our staff and volunteers from the very beginning… for some, the first real friends and support teams they’ve ever experienced. Atlanta Mission’s Transformation Model is an effective and holistic process that can truly end homelessness. For good.

That’s why we need you.

Donors and volunteers allow Atlanta Mission to welcome each man, woman, and child with compassion. Clients receive an individualized needs assessment, letting our team know how best to create a plan for success.

Every journey begins with Choose Help services, answering immediate, basic needs, and building relationships. When you support our Choose Help Services, you provide: Emergency shelter, meals, clothing, physical and mental healthcare, MARTA cards, transportation, childcare, and other assistance for work. You also provide life-skills classes and recreational activities, plus many opportunities to hear and experience the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When a person is ready to move on from Choose Help Services to Make Progress Services, your support allows us to: surround him or her with an entire support team of advocates, social workers, vocational training managers, counselors, educators, spiritual guides, and friends. They design a complete, individualized plan for success that includes physical, emotional, social, vocational, and spiritual goals. Ultimately, each client- each family- works to address the root causes of his or her homelessness and finds a real sense of hope.

The foundation of everything we do here at Atlanta Mission is based on God’s call to love our neighbors even more than ourselves. Sharing that love also means sharing the hope of the Gospel in our words and actions every single day, leading to spiritual transformation. Our deepest desire, and we hope, yours, is for everyone we encounter to know Christ, walk with Christ, and live for Christ. That involves intentionally sharing the love of Jesus, providing opportunities to study the bible together, praying together, serving together as a community, and learning to share God’s love with others.

Atlanta Mission stands by our clients, continuing to serve them as they achieve secure employment, obtain and maintain stable housing, and make deep roots in the community. Then, and only then, can we ensure that homelessness will end for the neighbors we serve, their children, and their children’s children.
