Hope in uncertain times

Atlanta Mission’s response to the COVID-19 crisis

Updated on June 24, 2020

As Atlanta Mission continues to care for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness amidst concerns of COVID-19, the health and safety of our staff and clients are our top priority. We are continuously taking proactive measures in adherence with CDC and Department of Health guidelines. We are confronting these uncertain times as a community united.

Now more than ever, we recognize that hope, the support of our community, and our trust in God will ultimately sustain us. We invite you to join us on this journey of hope.

Safely serving

What we’re doing

We are continuing to serve hundreds of individuals who are currently residing in our shelters and are taking an abundance of precaution in all areas in accordance with CDC and the DPH guidelines. Read through our FAQ below to see the actions we are currently taking on our campuses.

What are you doing to make sure clients and staff are safe and healthy?

We are performing health screenings on all clients multiple times per day. Symptomatic clients are transported to medical facilities for testing.

We will continue to deep clean the campuses throughout the day and are educating our clients on proper hygiene and cleaning protocols.

Have any Atlanta Mission clients or staff tested positive for the virus?

The CDC performed testing on all staff and clients at My Sister’s House and The Shepherd’s Inn on April 13-14th. We had four positive cases between the two campuses – all four of these individuals were asymptomatic. These clients were transported to an isolation hotel, operated by the Continuum of Care, where they were cared for and resided for 14 days. Upon completion of their quarantine period at the hotel, they were re-tested and have since rejoined us at our facilities.

The Mobile Health Clinic in Athens tested clients at The Potter’s House who are employed off-campus on May 30th. We had four positive cases on campus– two asymptomatic and two symptomatic. These individuals were immediately isolated on campus for 14 days and monitored by the Mobile Health Clinic, and staff and clients who were in contact with these individuals were also isolated for 14 days. We conducted a second round of testing on June 3rd, with no new positive cases. All positive cases have fully recovered, tested negative, and returned to work. The Mobile Health Clinic will continue to provide testing for all new clients entering our program.

Are Atlanta Mission thrift stores open and accepting donations?

Atlanta Mission’s thrift stores have reopened and resumed accepting donations. We are taking precautions similar to those in grocery stores that include, but are not limited to, maintaining 6 feet between customers, and continuously disinfecting all surfaces.

Is it possible to volunteer at Atlanta Mission currently?

Opportunities to volunteer are currently limited as we remain committed to adhering to the CDC and the State of Georgia’s guidance for social distancing. We will be updating our volunteers with opportunities to serve as they become available.
