Homelessness Doesn’t Always Mean Living on the Streets

For many of us, we picture homelessness as someone on the street, maybe in a tent, maybe just covered in blankets on the sidewalk. But that’s not always the case. There is a large number of people in our community who are experiencing homelessness and not actually living on the streets.

Every night in Atlanta, there are up to 7,000 people experiencing homelessness. Many of them find shelter most nights, but as many as 2,000 of them are considered “unsheltered.”

So what does homelessness look like if you aren’t living on the streets?

  • It’s living with family or friends.
  • It’s going from house to house, and couch to couch.
  • It’s going in and out of shelters.
  • It’s living in a hotel.
  • It’s living in your car.
  • It’s finding an abandoned warehouse.

Homelessness looks different for everyone. It doesn’t always mean living on the streets. It simply means you no longer have a place to call home. And it can happen to anyone in the blink of an eye.

We’re committed to helping our clients identify the root causes of their homelessness and overcome any traumatic experiences so that by the time they leave our facility, they are equipped with the tools they need to be independent and the encouragement they need to permanently break the cycle of poverty in their lives.
