Are there age restrictions for volunteers?

All volunteers must be at least 13 years old to serve at our campuses and 16 years old if serving a meal at one of our kitchens. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We have a 1:4 adult-to-youth ratio.

Have children younger than 13 years old? Please see “family-friendly opportunities” below.

Are there family-friendly opportunities?

Yes! One of the ways families can serve is through virtual volunteering. We also have opportunities for children ages 8 and up to serve alongside their families with a 1:4 adult-to-youth ratio. To learn more about family-friendly group opportunities, complete our Group Form and one of our team members will follow up with you.

What opportunities do you have for groups? How many people can I bring?

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for groups of 5 people up to 100 people. Groups can serve on one campus with up to 30 people. For groups of more than 30 and up to 100 people on a weekday, we’ll work with your group/organization/company to develop a custom volunteering plan across multiple campuses. Simply complete our Group Form and one of our team members will follow up with you.

Do you have opportunities to volunteer on evenings/weekends? What dates and times are available to volunteer?

Yes! We have volunteer opportunities in the evenings and also on Fridays and Saturdays. Click here to view our calendar of volunteer opportunities.

Can I bring items to donate when I come to volunteer?

ALL donations must be taken to our Donation Center where they can be processed before being sent to our campuses or thrift stores. Click here for more information on our Donation Center including location, times, and urgent needs items we accept.

Can men serve on women’s campuses and women serve on men’s campuses?

Yes. Volunteers can serve on any of our campuses regardless of their gender.

Do I have to complete a background check to volunteer?

We do require a background check for any volunteer opportunities involving children/youth under age 18 and for all volunteer teaching opportunities.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

We ask that all volunteers wear long pants, sleeved shirts, and closed-toe shoes.

What can I expect when I come to volunteer?

When you volunteer for the first time at one of our campuses, you’ll be greeted onsite by one of our volunteer team members who will lead you in a brief orientation before serving. The orientation will help you get to know more about Atlanta Mission, the challenges of homelessness in our communities, and the opportunity you registered for.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule? How can I change my reservation?

Once you register to become an Atlanta Mission volunteer, you’ll be able to manage all of your volunteer opportunities – selecting days/times, selecting specific volunteer opportunities, and canceling/rescheduling when necessary.

Where is Atlanta Mission located?

We operate four Atlanta area campuses and one Northeast GA campus. Click here to see a map of our locations.
