Stories of Transformation

Brannon’s Story

I first came here to The Shepherd’s Inn in October 2019 and then I was there for about six months until I found out about Atlanta Mission’s Next Steps program. The program helped land me a job working at an auto parts distributor in Decatur in March 2020.

I started Next Steps in 2020, and after the six-week course, I was able to get an interview and I got the job. I started first working in the warehouse there stocking auto parts and preparing them for shipping, and then after a year doing that I got the opportunity to become a delivery driver for batteries. So now I am the battery specialist, and I get to deliver batteries to auto shops and dealers all around the Greater Atlanta area.

Atlanta Mission Next Steps was like a boot camp for preparing us for job-seeking. We would do a lot of mock interviews, and we worked on our resumes a lot.

That was a huge aspect of it, but also it was like group therapy and self-improvement courses all rolled into one. I was staying at The Shepherd’s Inn while I was in Next Steps, and it was great. I was sharing a dorm with six other gentlemen, and we were from all different walks of life.

But we found ourselves here at the same place and same time. I just felt really lucky because I had a good group of guys. We really became like a family.

Next Steps really worked hard to help you develop into the person that you would like to be and helped you kind of hone in on what are the strong suits in your personality.

“I absolutely love my job now. Atlanta Mission has done so much for me.”
