Summer Care Package for Those Facing Homelessness

As the scorching summer sun takes its toll, it becomes increasingly important to remember those in our communities who may be most vulnerable to its effects—people experiencing homelessness. The summer months can be particularly challenging for our neighbors without a safe place to seek shelter from the heat. However, with a little compassion and awareness, you can make a real difference in their lives.

Consider keeping a few care packages in your car this summer to hand out to someone experiencing homelessness. Start with a large ziploc bag or a tote bag and fill it with essential items for our neighbors to stay cool and safe this summer.

Here are a few items to include to get started:

  • Bottle of water for immediate consumption (bonus if it’s cold!)
  • Reusable water bottle that they can fill over time
  • Hygiene products such as Kleenex, deodorant, sunscreen, SPF lip balm, bandaids, feminine care products, mints, hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes
  • Snacks such as trail mix, soft granola bars or protein bars
  • Referral cards to Restoration House and The Shepherd’s Inn (click here to print our referral cards)
  • Pre-loaded MARTA cards

To top off your care package, write a little note of encouragement or scripture and place it inside the package or write it on the outside of the bag. Here’s an example of a care package that we created!

By providing some essential items, raising awareness of our shelters, and offering kindness, we can help those most vulnerable this summer find relief from the Atlanta heat. Thank you for helping those experiencing homelessness in our community stay safe, cool, and cared for during the summer months.
