Why Your Participation Matters in Our 5K Race

Homelessness is an ever-present challenge in Atlanta, and unfortunately, it continues through the unforgiving winter months. In an effort to shed light on the difficulties faced by our neighbors facing homelessness during this season, we host our 5K Race to End Homelessness each year in February. More than just a run, the 5K allows participants to experience the perilous conditions of winter while providing tangible support for those without a roof over their heads.

Here is how your participation in our 5K supports those we serve:

1. Your support provides safe, warm shelter. Temperatures can drop as low as the 30s in Atlanta in February, making it a dangerous situation for those facing homelessness. Your support as a 5K participant is critical in providing men, women, and children with a temporary home and a chance to regain stability.

2. Your support provides immediate relief. Those facing homelessness often lack access to basic resources. The funds raised help provide basic essentials such as meals, clothing, laundry services, and showers, addressing immediate concerns and promoting a sense of dignity.

3. Your support provides trauma-informed care. By helping our clients heal from unresolved trauma through mental health services, they are taking the necessary steps to break the cycle of homelessness and start the path to whole-person healing and a stable life.

Your participation matters, wherever you are

Your registration fee for the race will cover one night of shelter and services for someone who would otherwise spend the night in the cold, on the streets. There is a virtual option available if you can’t make it to the official race location at Pemberton Place Greenspace.

Virtual participants can run or walk the 5K at their own pace and location of their choosing. Atlanta has various scenic running and walking trails to choose from. Some options include:

The 5K Race to End Homelessness is not your average charity run. It is an opportunity to help transform lives and restore hope to those who call Atlanta home. Whether you’re participating in person or virtually, every step taken in this race is a stride towards hope and a future for those facing homelessness in our community. Join us in the race against homelessness on February 17, 2024, at 8:30 AM. For more information, visit our website below.
