Transformation Model

Our Hope Giving Model

Transforming, through Christ, the lives of those facing homelessness.

We meet each person where they are, in their unique circumstances, to provide customized services to help them overcome the cause of their homelessness.

Facing homelessness

Over 3,600 people came to our doors last year.

The majority of people facing homelessness are relationally-poor, meaning they have little to no trusted relationships in their lives. They have no one to turn to for help. Many of them end up sleeping on couches, in hotels, in cars, or on the streets.

Find Hope

Emergency Services

We aim to meet basic needs, including shelter, meals, showers, and laundry facilities, and provide a level of stability that creates space to build relationships. Once basic needs are met, our staff teams work to triage and assess any other immediate needs in order to point each individual to the best next step, either with Atlanta Mission or other providers.

Basic Needs

We provide nutritious meals, showers, laundry, medical care from partners, clothing, and MARTA cards for medical transportation. These services are provided for clients at any stage of the program. We partner with CAPN for PATH services, such as pediatric care, sick visits, and psychiatrist assistance for women and children. We partner with Mercy Care for the same services for men.

Overnight Care

We offer beds and a safe place to sleep to as many men, women, and children as capacity allows. Our residential guests receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our 24-hour Community Living team helps our guests get oriented and make them feel comfortable, while informing them about the services we offer.

Inform & Inspire

Many of the clients we serve come to us with no hope for a better future. Our goal is to inspire them and let them know they are not alone. We want to walk alongside them and cheer them on. We talk with them in a group setting to give them information about the services we offer, the outcomes they will achieve, and inspire them by sharing stories of other clients who have successfully graduated.

Social Services

Our social workers are available to consult with clients in Find Hope to connect them with appropriate services in the Atlanta metro area. We want our clients to have the essential resources they need to meet their health needs as well as take steps to end their homelessness.

Spiritual Formation

We want every client who comes through our doors to Know Christ, Walk with Christ, and Live for Christ. We have daily devotions at each campus, as well as Bible studies, chapel, spiritual formation classes, and small groups. Our staff and volunteers share the light of Christ day in and day out in the way they love, encourage, and build up our clients.

Meetings with an Ambassador

Choose Help

Residential Services

Our Ambassadors build relationships and trust with clients. Once a client has decided they want to address the underlying causes of their homelessness, they complete a comprehensive needs assessment in order to figure out next steps, either with Atlanta Mission in Make Progress or with another service provider.

Trusted Relationship

The Ambassador will meet many times one-on-one with each client in Choose Help in order to get to know them better and ascertain which services will be most helpful. Ambassadors work to build trust so clients feel comfortable enough to share their needs. Building this trusted relationship is essential for the long-term success of our clients.

Life Skills Classes

We offer a variety of classes to our Choose Help clients in order to teach valuable life skills that will help get them back on their feet. These classes are taught by Ambassadors, Community Living Associates, volunteers, and outside partners, and include topics such as anger management, healthy relationships, forgiveness, dealing with fear, and boundaries.

Responsible Living

Because our campuses are home for each of our clients, we want them to feel proud of where they live and also build a caring and uplifting community. We hold community meetings every week in order to teach the importance of clean spaces, as well as to encourage them to build relationships with one another and take responsibility for their shared spaces.

Social Services

Our social workers help Choose Help clients with referrals to outside services and reconnection with family when appropriate.

Make Progress

Residential Services

In order to best meet the needs of a diverse population, Atlanta Mission uses an interdisciplinary team to execute personalized services in five key areas: physical, emotional, spiritual, social, & vocational. Each client follows a personalized service program based on their needs assessment. Through these services, the goal is for clients to become rooted in community, retain employment, and become housing eligible.

Emotional Services

Meeting the emotional needs of our clients is essential to their success. Most have undergone extreme trauma and stress. They have counselors and advocates available to provide one-on-one counseling (with trauma-informed care), clinical groups, process groups, and life skills classes to meet their emotional needs.

Vocational Services

During the first phase of our vocational program, clients engage in service activities (e.g. dining services). Here they will receive personalized coaching from our staff against five key workplace competencies. The second stage is Atlanta Mission @Work: six weeks of technical and soft job training skills. Graduates will receive a job with one of our corporate partners. A Job Retention Coach continues alongside them for a year

Physical Services

Our physical services address health barriers to employment and permanent housing. Our staff work with clients to make healthcare appointments and provide transportation to those appointments. Our Housing Social Workers help clients find sustainable living options. We promote financial literacy for everyone as a way to ensure their future success through financial management classes.

Social Services

Community partners engage our clients in spiritual, educational, and recreational activities. Our clients are also encouraged to be involved in a local faith community that walks alongside them. For our children, we provide childcare during the day, afterschool programs, and summer activities for the children.

Sustain & Grow

Alumni Services

After they graduate from Make Progress, some clients will continue to live with us while they pursue housing options, while others have found their own housing. At The Potter’s House and at The Shepherd’s Inn, we have transitional housing available for our Sustain and Grow clients. Clients will also have a sustainable income and will continue working with their Job Retention Coach. Clients are urged to maintain healthy external relationships in their community, such as a friend, pastor, or co-worker they can trust. Clients who have graduated are also encouraged to stay in touch with their counselor, advocate, or other trusted staff members as they work towards sustainable, independent living.
