3 Mom Hacks From Our Mission Moms

As Mother’s Day approaches, we want to celebrate the incredible strength and resilience of moms everywhere, especially those facing the challenges of homelessness. At Atlanta Mission, we’ve served some remarkable mothers and we encourage them to prioritize self-care to nurture themselves amidst life’s struggles.

In this blog post, we’re sharing with you 3 empowering “mom hacks” straight from the hearts of these incredible women, our Mission Moms. We hope their wisdom inspires you to embrace self-care in your own life, no matter what challenges you may be facing.

Light a candle

In the midst of chaos, finding moments of peace can feel like a luxury. For our Mission Mom Tiara, lighting a candle is a simple yet powerful act of self-care.

It’s her favorite way to kickback. And her self-care tip is pretty simple. “Just relax”, she said. “That’s what I like to do.”

Though excited to pass on her advice for how to unwind, Tiara’s face brightened even more when she shared her favorite thing about being a mom.

“Watching my kids grow into their own little personalities,” she said.

Read a book

Escaping into the pages of a good book is a favorite pastime for many of the moms here. One of our Mission Moms who find solace within the pages of stories is Jessica, who loves to spend her downtime with a book of any genre.

Whether it’s a gripping mystery, a heartwarming romance, or a thought-provoking memoir, diving into a book offers a precious opportunity to unwind and recharge.

When asked about being a mom to her two little girls, she shared, “My favorite thing about being a mom is watching them grow and turn into young women. It’s exciting.”

Take some "me" time

Take some “me” time

It’s easy for moms to put their own needs last, especially when facing adversity. But here at Atlanta Mission, our Mission Moms have learned the importance of carving out dedicated “me” time, even if it’s just a few minutes each day.

As a mother of a two-year-old and a three-month-old, Jarris would spend her self-care time outside.

“I love to go on walks,” she said.

Expressing a similar theme as our other Mission Moms, Jarris loves the opportunity of watching her two boys grow up.

“[My favorite part about being a mom is] just watching them grow,” she said. “They’re so sweet. Just watching them learn different things. I love that part of it.”

These three mom hacks may seem simple, but their impact is profound. They remind us that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s a vital component of resilience and strength. So, as Mother’s Day approaches, we encourage you to take a page from our Mission Mom’s playbook and indulge in some much-deserved self-care.

To make it even easier, we’ve compiled these mom hacks into a FREE e-book that you can download and keep as a reminder to prioritize yourself every day. Click the link below to access your copy.
