A Look Back on 2020 at Atlanta Mission

2020 has been a challenging year. When COVID-19 hit, it became the year of uncertainty and constant change. But, as we faced these challenges and hard times, we learned quickly the importance of community, and just how dedicated and wonderful the Atlanta Mission community is.

This year turned into a year of joy for us. Here are a few ways we’ve seen transformation continue for all of us across all of our campuses:

From some of our staff:

  • “One thing that God did at the Shepherds Inn was he used the pandemic to unite our staff to the tune of keeping our clients safe! Homeless shelters were supposed to be a dangerous place for the spread of the virus, but God heard our prayers and didn’t allow our shelter to follow the predictions of the CDC and the national trends! Because our clients knew they were safe, they allowed us to form deeper relationships, share their true needs, and most importantly they were receptive to the redemptive, good news of Jesus Christ!” – Lee, Campus Administrator at The Shepherd’s Inn
  • “In a year with such uncertainty, it has been such a blessing to work in an environment focused on supporting others. While working diligently to figure out new ways to support our clients, I have been overwhelmed by the way our team has learned to support each other.” – Madison, Campus Administrator at The Potter’s House
  • “My faith has been strengthened so much by the ways I’ve seen God pour out His favor, love, and grace on Atlanta Mission over the last year. It’s been incredible to see the ways in which He’s used the generosity of our donors, along with the wisdom and strength of our staff, to bless our clients in ways that only He can do!” – Madison, Development Analyst

From some of our clients:

  • “I hit a bit of bad luck, found myself homeless, and so I came down here to The Shepherd’s Inn. But I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world, because this brought me closer to God. Before I came down here, if I saw a homeless person, I’d cross the street. And now, I understand.” – Shane, a client at The Shepherd’s Inn
  • “It’s a blessing that I’m here because if I wasn’t, there’s no telling where I’d be. So I’m grateful. I’m grateful for the mission and I’m grateful for what I learned.” – Anthony, a client at The Shepherd’s Inn
  • “Since the day I came here, my life has changed tremendously. I’m not the same person that I was when I first walked through the doors.” – Nick, a client at My Sister’s House
  • “To all the donors of Atlanta Mission, thank you for everything. You’ve done so much for me, and changed my life completely around. Without The Potter’s House, I’d be homeless or dead.” – Ryan, a client at The Potter’s House
  • “Every day, I have peace and overflowing joy. The tools they’ve given me here have taught me a lot. I know I have to pursue this new life and recover every single day. And I am.” Mike, a client at The Potter’s House

From a few of our volunteers and donors:

  • “The Mission has really impacted our family’s life. We’ve all served together, and we’ve gotten to know all kinds of amazing people— clients, staff, and other volunteers. It’s an amazing place.” – Ian and Kristi Marshall, donors and volunteers of Atlanta Mission
  • “People come in pretty broken in life, and they’re not sure on their feet or in their faith. Through being at Atlanta Mission, you can see the hope that they begin to have in their life.” – Katie and Akash, donors and volunteers at Atlanta Mission

In 2020, our community responded in amazing ways.

When we needed thermometers, you provided.

When we needed masks, you provided.

We had college students delivering supplies.

We had churches providing food and other needs.

You showed love amidst a pandemic and crisis.

Thank you. We truly can’t do it without you.
