Anisa’s Story: An Atlanta Mission 5K Partner

It all started when Anisa and her husband, Arjun, were walking in Piedmont Park just before Christmas. After seeing people on the streets experiencing homelessness, they begin to ask how they can help, not just in that moment, but long term.

“We talked on the way back about researching local organizations that have a real impact and when we did we were really impressed with Atlanta Mission. They are so devoted to supporting and empowering people to transform their lives. Their work is truly inspiring.” – Arjun

That was five years ago, and Anisa and Arjun have been constant supporters of Atlanta Mission ever since in any way they can. Anisa is the owner of a company, ANISA International, and her company has become a huge supporter of Atlanta Mission as well.  One of their favorite events to sponsor and participate in is our annual 5K Race to End Homelessness. Arjun has participated in the 5K every year since 2017.

“We started by asking if there was anything we could buy that the clients needed. Bedding was one of the main things I remember us getting  – comforters, mattresses, sheets – things many of us are fortunate enough to be able to take for granted in life. We’ve been so fortunate to be able to become more involved over time including the 5k race and the new campus, as well as with volunteering.”

Why do they love the 5K Race to End Homelessness so much?

“There is such a strong sense of community before, during, and after the race. It’s cold and it’s early in the morning and we’re all there to support something so important as well as push ourselves out of our comfort zone a bit. We also know that although we had a choice to stay in our warm beds that morning, there are a lot of people who do not have that luxury – there are people who sleep in the cold every night.“

Anisa’s entire company has been involved in the 5K for many years with many employees running together each year. They note that the best part is seeing everyone – runners, staff, and clients – come together encouraging and supporting each other.

Although the 5K Race to End Homelessness will be virtual this year, Anisa International plans to still be involved. This year, they are a platinum sponsor of the 5K as well as a monthly match sponsor, matching all monthly donations through the end of the year.

“Personally, I feel it is more important and meaningful this year than ever for us to come together, even though virtually, and show support to Atlanta Mission for its life-saving and life-changing work.”
