The Braves Spread the Love on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day was extra special this year for the women and children we serve at The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, the campus for our front door services. The Atlanta Braves organization stopped by to serve lunch, give out Braves swag, clean the entire building, and spend time with the women and children. “We are truly feeling the love of the community today,” one client said.

One of the special guests they brought with them was Blooper, the Braves new mascot. The children and adults enjoyed taking photos and laughing with Blooper.

The Braves have been serving alongside Atlanta Mission at The Shepherd’s Inn (our downtown men’s campus) for several years, hosting engaging events, sponsoring meals, donating Braves swag, and engaging in meaningful service with our men. Kathryn Bennett, the Braves Community Engagement Coordinator, is passionate about serving the homeless in our city and wanted to connect her staff with the clients at The Atlanta Day Shelter.

One volunteer shared: “We’re glad to be here. It’s great to see the kids smile. This is an amazing place, and it’s a great way to spend our day.” Thank you to the Braves for showing love to our clients on Valentine’s Day!

If you are interested in volunteering at The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, or any of our other campus, we would love to have you. Please visit www.volunteer.atlantamission.org.

The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children (ADS) provides a variety of services, including childcare, showers, laundry, lunch, MARTA cards for medical appointments, medical care, life-skills classes, recreational opportunities, access to My Sister’s House (for overnight services), and much more.

At ADS, we help women break free from homelessness by breaking the bonds that led them there. Each woman is met by a Client Ambassador who is focused on building a relationship, meeting her needs, and casting vision and hope for her future.
