Homeless in summer heat
Summer in Atlanta can be dangerous for men, women, and children experiencing homelessness.
Summer heat
As temperatures rise, so do the risks to health
Second-degree burns
Blacktops can reach 185°, leading to serious injury on contact with exposed skin.
Dehydration
Dehydration can lead to kidney stones, liver problems, and joint and muscle damage.
Heat Stroke
Dramatically rising body temperatures can cause coma and even death.
It’s hard to find water when you don’t have money. Sometimes restaurants will give you a cup, but that’s not always enough. Once I ended up in the hospital from dehydration.
