Is Ending Homelessness Really Possible?

Atlanta MIssion’s four facilities were built to provide food and shelter, critical needs support, job attainment courses and addiction recovery programs for Metro Atlanta’s homeless population. But for those facing homelessness, change isn’t just about a hot meal and a place to stay. Change is about sustaining and growing as a person emotionally, spiritually and physically.

This has been what we’ve worked to help people do over the past 84 years. However, our goal has always been greater than that. It’s been about more than shelters, food and resources.

Our tagline—while aspirational—has been “Ending Homelessness.” But is it possible for us to end homelessness?

Reports have shown that on any given night, there could be more than 580,000 people who don’t have a place to call home. We are now learning over these past two years those numbers don’t even show the complete picture of the need in our country either.

Ending homelessness may not actually be possible—many people don’t choose help if they need it, they may be embarrassed or ashamed. There is something we know that we can do: we can empower those experiencing homelessness. Together, we can give people hope.

Hope Lives Here

As the years have gone on, Atlanta Mission has become so much more than a homeless shelter. We inspire and transform the lives of our clients. We give them hope.

Hope Lives Here at Atlanta Mission.

Hope is a powerful word. Hope means a brighter future, and it means having a trusted relationship that you can believe in.

Hope is a common thread that runs through every aspect of our organization. You see it as you walk through the doors of The Potter’s House, The Shepherd’s Inn, My Sister’s House and Restoration House—you see it at our thrift stores, the office and in the eyes of every client, staff member and volunteer.

We have hope because of Jesus, and we know that if we can share Jesus and our mission with every person we serve, then we can help give them hope, and we can transform lives.
